Ondix Help Pages - Profile Help

Username, password, secret phrase questions
Each Ondix user has a profile. Profile is started upon registration. To get to your profile, go 'my profile' and then 'edit profile' on your user menu. When you register Ondix records your email, username, password, secret phrase (encrypted), secret phrase tip, IP. After you register, you cannot change secret phrase, secret phrase tip, your registration email, and your registration IP. This information is permanently attached to your profile. You can, however, change your login password and add another email. Read more about secret phrase and password settings here.

To reset your password, type your new password where it says 'new password' and then repeat it in the 'retype your new password' and then click update at the bottom. If you would like to add another email to your profile use additional email field.

IP address, date created, last updated recording
To increase security, Ondix records the IP address of the user who initially created the profile. It is only used to prevent fraud and hopefully find a user who committed it. If you do not do anything illegal, that is no need for you to worry about this number. On your 'edit profile' page you can also find the date your profile was created and last updated. Note that the last updated date refers to the profile updates only. So if you update the content, it will not change the last updated date on the profile.

Profile contact information
On your profile page you can also add you contact information. Adding your contact information is optional, but recommended. Under no circumstance will Ondix ever release or sell this information to anybody, other when order by court. Should the questions arise and Ondix representative would need to contact you, the contact information would become valuable. To establish good business relationship and add value to your profile please provide your contact information. Note, your contact information is only being use internally and is never published anywhere on the Ondix site.

My Icon
Ah, the fun part :c) Yes, forget that straight Ebay-Paypal look… sell, buy, send, receive… Go and have fun! Chose your icon. By default you will be given an empty icon. Click on 'my icon' and then browse through the icons and chose the one you like. Ondix icon will follow your username throughout our site. Many established users have their icons as a symbol of stability and recognition.

About me page
Ondix maintains the ebay-like about me page for its users. Click 'about me page' from your profile and you will be taken to about me page. On that page you can create your 'about me page'. Type in the box the information about yourself. You can add some HTML to this page, have links to your website or add some pictures. The about me page is displayed when somebody clicks on your username. Therefore, to establish your profile, it is desirable to have something on the 'about me page'.

Please do not abuse the HTML part, do not post any java scripts, no pop-ups, no automatic redirects, no weird stuff, or automatic background color changing etc... Please use common sense when making and about me page. Ondix staff will determine the 'soundness' of your 'about me page' and if determine too weird it will be deleted. In some serious abuse cases your profile will be deleted too.

The status of 'about me page' will determine whether or not the 'me' icon is displayed next to your username. That is the only action this status performs, it does not actually disable the about me page.

Close my account
You can close your account at any time! No need to send any notices or do anything extra. To close your account you need to provide the secret phrase. Since only the user who created the account knows the secret phrase he or she is the only one who is able to close it.

It is important to understand what happens to your account balance when you close your account. If the balance is under $50 USD you can close your account anytime but you will lose whatever it is in the account. We call it the termination fee. If your balance is over $50 USD you will not be able to close your account until you withdraw your money and bring your account balance under $50 USD. Obviously, to avoid the termination fee, it is better for you to wait till you can withdraw all your money and then close your account right after you do.

Secret Phrase Help
Secret phrase is the single most important security feature on our website! Users set up a secret phrase during signup. During and after signup secret phrase is being transmitted and stored in the encrypted form. NOBODY, but you knows what this phrase is! Ondix only stores the encrypted version of your secret phrase; therefore, even if our database were to get compromised, attackers would not be able to get anybody's secret phrase. What that mean is that once you create your secret phrase, it will get destroyed, and only you would know what it was and never again after that will it be transferred or stored in the clear, unencrypted form.
Once you decide to make a significant change to your account such as change your default email or withdrew money, Ondix will ask you to provide a secret phrase. On the secure page you would type your secret phrase and send it to us. When Ondix gets your secret phrase it will encrypt it and compare to the encrypted copy we have on file since your signup. If they match you will be granted a permission to change sensitive information. That is why it is very important not to give your secret phrase to anyone. Because whoever knows the secret phase can change any information on your account, take your money out, change or delete your content and Ondix will not be able to do anything about it!

Once again, Ondix does NOT know your secret phrase, in fact, nobody does, but you! That is why it is very important to REMEMBER your secret phrase.

To help you remember your secret phrase Ondix saves a "secret phrase tip". When you first create a secret phrase, you may type a tip to yourself. When you have trouble remembering the secret phrase, we will display you the tip. Needless to say, it is a bad idea to type your secret phrase in the tip field.

The encryption of the secret phrase is strong. In fact, if your phrase is more then 6 characters and has both digits and letters, it would take about 100 years to decrypt it.

What is the difference between my password and my secret phrase?
You use your password to login on your account and make minor changes to it. However, to complete authenticate yourself you need a secret phrase. From the Ondix point of view, whoever has a correct secret phrase is the owner of the account.

Why do you need both password and secret phrase? Why not just one?

We have both for convenience and security. Passwords often get stolen; emails hijacked; logins sniffed. But no hacker can get into you head and magically guess your secret phrase! Ondix gives you a peace of mind. Even if your password gets stolen, your money is safe!
